YMCA Youth Dance Fall 2019

The Grand Lake Family YMCA will offer fall dance lessons for youth 5 years to 18 years of age.  Lyrical and Contemporary styles will be taught in each class by dance instructor Kaylee Wallace.  Registration will begin July 6 and will continue through August 16, 2019.

Monday, August 12th at 6:30 pm Kaylee will have an open house for interested participants and their parents/guardians to hear about the program and to ask any questions you might have.

Classes will begin the week of August 19th, and will be held in the YMCA upstairs fitness studio. 

Monday, August 19th, 8 years to 12 year olds class time 6:30 - 8:00 pm.
Tuesday, August 20th, 5 years to 7 year olds class time 5:30 - 7:00 pm.
Tuesday, August 20th, 13 years to 18 years of age class time 7:00 -8:30 pm.

Program Dues:

Monthly YMCA members $50 (due the first class of every month)
                     $245/paid in full

Monthly non-members $60 (due the first class of every month)
                     $285/paid in full

Shirt $15 (must be paid for at time of registration)

Recital costumes $70 this is for all their costumes one flat payment (due by November 5th, 2019)

*Participants will need dance paws you can get at Walmart or amazon and a black sleeveless dance leotard.

Youth Swim Lessons

The Grove Y leases the Cities outdoor pool from 8:00 am - 12:00 noon to offer swim lessons and water fitness classes during the summer.  Registration starts May 1 and will continue until the Friday before the last session of the summer.  Classes are for youth 3 years to 12 years of age.  Classes run in 4 - 2 week sessions, and are held on Mondays - Thursdays with each Friday left open as a make up day due to inclement weather.  The YMCA reserves the right to reassign participants based on skill level.

Make up days are on Fridays, if classes are canceled due to the pool being closed for weather or other unforeseen issues.

Ages 3 - 5 years old

  • PIKE: The Pike class is for beginning swimmers. They will learn adjustment skills in the shallow and deep end, front and back floats, kicking and some swimming. PRE-Requisits: None. TO PASS: They must be able to kick and blow bubbles, kick one length with kick board, back float (10 sec) and swim 10 feet independently.
  • EEL: The Eel class is for children well adjusted to the water. PRE-Requisites: Pass Pike skills. SKILLS INTRO: Eels will learn more independent floating, diving, and swimming. TO PASS: They must swim one length on front and back independently, do front and back float (15 sec) and master sitting dives.
  • RAY: The Ray class is intended for the advanced pre-school swimmer. PRE-Requisites: Pass Eel skills. SKILLS INTRO: Emphasis will be placed on endurance and learning more advanced strokes. TO PASS: They must float (one min) on front and back, swim two lengths front and back crawl, master sitting, kneeling, and standing dives and swim one length front crawl with rotary breathing.

Ages 6-12 years old

  • POLLIWOG: The Polliwog class focuses on water adjustment. PRE-Requisites: None SKILLS INTRO: Front and back floating, gliding, swimming and rhythmic and rotary breathing. TO PASS: They must do a front and back float (15 sec), glide and flutter kick one length on back and front, show rhythmic and rotary breathing and increased confidence.
  • GUPPY: The Guppy class focuses on continuing to develop basic skills. PRE-Requisites: Pass Polliwog or equivalent skills. SKILLS INTRO: Survival floats, treading water, development of front and back crawl, sitting dives, and sculling. TO PASS: Front and back float (1 min), tread water (30 sec), swim on front one length, swim front crawl with rotary breathing. • MINNOW: The Minnow class focuses on stroke introduction. PRE-Requisites: Pass Guppy or equivalent skills. SKILLS INTRO: Treading water with scissor kick, kneeling and standing dives, front and back crawl, and rescue breaths. TO PASS: Survival float (3 min); tread with scissor kick (30 sec), sitting, kneeling, and standing dives, and front and back crawl one length.
  • FISH: The Fish level focuses on endurance and stroke enhancement. PRE-Requisites: Pass Minnow or equivalent skills. SKILLS INTRO: Breast stroke kick, elementary backstroke, dolphin kick, advanced sculling, underwater swimming, surface dives. TO PASS: Survival float (6 min); tread 3-5 min. using breaststroke and sidestroke kick and others. Breast stroke, side stroke dolphin kick two lengths, front and back crawl two lengths, demonstrate rescue breathing and first aid.

Parent-Child Swim Lessons

This program is designed for children 6 months to 2 years old and their parents. The program introduces children to a safe aquatic environment with developmentally appropriate skills, teaching children to become comfortable in the water and to start swimming with the comfort of their parent by their side.

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

Youth Sports:

Youth Flag Football

The Grove Y will have a youth flag football league every fall for children ages 4 - 9 years.  Boys and girls welcome to play.  All games are played at the Grove City Sports Complex on either Monday or Tuesday evenings.  Games will be played from 5:30 pm - 8:30 PM.  Divisions are 4 - 6 year olds, and 7-9 year olds.  Teams play 7 on 7 or 5 on 5 depending on registration numbers, and number of teams in each division.  Team shirts for each participant.  Volunteer coaches are always needed, so if you would like to help young people learn the skills to playing football & learn sportsmanship you can come to the Y or fill out the online volunteer form and we will be in contact.  Registration will begin July 1 and continue until the Friday, August 16, 2019.

Youth Fall and Spring Soccer

Get your shin pads on for a fun time boys and girls.  The Grove Y fall and spring soccer programs are for boys and girls 3 years old to 10 years old.  3 year olds must have turned 3 before the soccer season begins.  U10 players may have to play up to U12 depending on where the child's birthday falls.  Call the Y for more information on U10 birth date cutoff.

Fall Soccer registration will begin July 1 and end the Friday, August 16. Games will begin after Labor Day.

Spring Soccer registration will begin February 1 and end February 28. Games will begin the week after spring break.

U6 and below participants will get a game jersey.  They will need shin guards, cleats or tennis shoes.

U8 & U10 participants will get a jersey, shorts, and socks for game play.  They will need shin guards, cleats or tennis shoes.

All games are currently played on Saturday mornings to around 1 pm.  This is subject to change beginning the fall of 2019.

Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 Birth Year Divisions:
U4:    2016 - 2017
U6:    2014 - 2015
U8:    2012 - 2013

U10:  2010 - 2011

*Players can play up one division.  Players cannot play down.

Youth Basketball

Its hoop time at the Y.  Youth in grades Pre-K through 6th grades, boys and girls will have the opportunity to improve their skills, have fun, develop sportsmanship, and learn about team play in the Y youth basketball program.  Registration for the program will begin October 7, and continue through November 8.  Youth in Grades 3 and up will be required to participate in a fun skills night.  This will allow coaches to develop a draft list of players, and help equal out the talent on each team.  Exact days and times of skills nights will be announced at a later dater.

Divisions for the program are as follows:
Pre K(must be 4 years old) & Kindergarten - Coed teams
1st & 2nd Grades - Boys Division and Girls Division
3rd & 4th Grades - Boys Division and Girls Division
5th & 6th Grades - Boys Division and Girls Division

Height of goals and size of the basketball will be determined by the grade level the player is participating.  Proper size of basketball and the height of the goals are very important to the development of proper shooting and dribbling skills.

Pre K(must be 4 years old) & Kindergarten:  Y members 25$ & Program Participants $35

1st grade through 6th grades:
Cost for YMCA Members is $45
Cost for Program Participants is $65

Games are played on Saturday mornings and early afternoons at the Grove Middle school and upper elementary gyms.  Each player will receive a game jersey.

 

Fencing

Fencing is a safe and fun sport for the whole family.  Men, women, boys and girls can enjoy the sport of kings and queens.  It is also a great exercise for both the body and mind.  Beginners classes are at 6:30 PM every Thursday at the Grove Y in the upstairs fitness studio.  People who are interested are welcome to come and observe the classes before committing to the program. 

Cost is $10 per month for Y Members
Cost is $15 per month for Program Participants
